Following a handful of determined complaints, Winchester City Council has decided it is wise to postpone our event on Sunday 1st March. Officers are keen to ensure local residents are given a chance to express a point of view.
WCC is extremely supportive of what we are trying to do, and has promised to help us find a new and better home for our fruit hedge. The excellent bare root plants we have been given by the Tree Council need to be put in the soil as soon possible – WCC has kindly offered to look after them until the autumn.
We feel it is a shame that a small minority have called a halt to this project in Fulflood, and we will now be planting elsewhere.
On a more positive note, we successfully planted 70m of fruiting hedgerow at Western Primary School last week, with enthusiastic support from parents and children alike. We look forward to seeing these flower in the spring.
